The TransRockies Singletrack 6 Mountain Bike Race returns to the West Kootenays July 11-16 and Castlegar will host one of the stages.

TransRockies organizes various endurance events in North America throughout the year, offering participants incredible experiences in some of the continent’s most beautiful and challenging landscapes. In 2024, the Singletrack 6 race returns to Castlegar. The number in the race’s name represents the different areas racers will visit in just under one week and aside from Castlegar, other destination communities include Kaslo, New Denver, Nakusp and two riding networks around Nelson.

Mountain bike enthusiasts from around the globe are invited to experience some of the most breathtaking and challenging singletrack trails in the West Kootenays, showcasing the region’s natural beauty and diverse terrain. Each stage of the race will also highlight the unique charm and hospitality of the host communities, offering participants and spectators a memorable cultural experience.

Ryan Bell, marketing manager of TransRockies, says Castlegar is “known for its vibrant arts scene and scenic riverfront trails…(it) will kick off the race with an exciting opening stage.” And TransRockies President Aaron McConnell says, “We are thrilled to bring Singletrack 6 to the West Kootenays this year. The region’s diverse and scenic trails, combined with the warm hospitality of the host communities, will create an unforgettable experience for all participants.”

This year’s race will offer a variety of mountain biking from long cross-country trails to ridge runs providing panoramic vistas to epic descents. And new for 2024 are two distance options for every stage.

It’s appropriate TransRockies 6 is returning to Castlegar this year given that the Captain Kangaroo trail in the Merry Creek network was voted best on the planet by users of Trailforks, the de facto map and tracking app for all mountain bikers. Called “The Top 10 Rated MTB Trails 2023” the story ranks trails from Tasmania and the Czech Republic to New Zealand and the US but it is the Captain Kangaroo that won the top spot.
